Through rational molecular engineering, a crystal structure is transformed from a 0D cluster of K2Sn(C2O4)2·H2O to a 1D chain of (K2Sn2(C2O4)2F2·H2O), and the corresponding birefringence increases dramatically from 0.103@546 nm to 0.301@546 nm.
